Footer

How do you set up your website footer?

The footer is the visitor's last navigation point. Someone who reaches the bottom of a page may still be looking for contact details, a secondary page, legal information or a next step. Configure the footer under Settings → Appearance → Footer: choose a layout first, then fill in the fields that belong to it.

Click Save footer to apply the changes across the whole website.

Seven footer styles

Choose a layout that matches the density and purpose of your site. An eighth option hides the footer while keeping its settings.

Minimal

A restrained footer with only a few elements. Good for portfolios and simpler websites.

Big branded

Large logo, tagline, postal address, footer navigation and social links together.

Four-column footer

Several link columns with their own headings. Useful when visitors need access to many secondary pages.

Newsletter signup

Replaces one column with a newsletter subscription form.

Call-to-action

One strong message and a prominent button in the centre. Useful when the footer should drive a clear next step.

Contact-focused

Structured contact card with email, phone, address, opening hours and a map. Designed for local businesses.

Brand statement

A large editorial-style statement with a few highlighted links underneath.

No footer

Hides the footer while keeping its content and layout settings so you can restore it later.

Which fields are available in each style?

The settings only show fields relevant to the selected layout. As a guide:

  • Logo text, copyright text and legal links: available in every style. Logo text defaults to the website name.
  • Alignment: Minimal. Split: logo and copyright text on the left, links on the right. Centred: logo, links and copyright text under each other on one centred axis.
  • Tagline: Big branded, Newsletter signup, Contact-focused and Brand statement.
  • Postal address: Big branded.
  • Footer navigation: Big branded beside the logo, and Brand statement below the main statement. Two or three links usually work best in the latter.
  • Social links: Big branded and Contact-focused. Add a platform name and URL; they appear beneath the navigation.
  • Link columns: Four-column footer, and the link sections in the left column of Contact-focused. Each section has its own heading with links or plain text rows (opening hours, for example) underneath, and Add divider puts a horizontal rule between them with its own length and colour. Set the heading colour with Title colour. A section can also sit under the previous section, in the same column, so one column can hold several headed groups. In the Four-column footer, three or four columns is ideal; only the first four are displayed.
  • Logo position: Contact-focused. The logo can sit above the columns or left, beside the first column, in a column of its own. On a phone the logo is always at the top.
  • Call to action: Call-to-action. Includes a headline, supporting text, button and optional secondary link. The button can point to one of your pages, an on-page anchor or an external URL.
  • Contact details: Contact-focused. Email, phone, multiline address, opening hours and an embedded map. Empty fields simply do not appear.
  • Newsletter signup: Newsletter signup (see below).

In several languages: the footer texts, such as the logo text, tagline, address, opening hours and copyright text, are set per language. Where the logo text is empty in a language, the website name is shown. The links in the footer navigation and the link columns can differ by language too, just like in the header menu; social links point to the same place in every language.

Map in the footer

Contact-focused can include a map. In Google Maps, find the location, choose Share → Embed a map, then copy only the URL from the src="…" part of the embed code. Only Google Maps and OpenStreetMap embeds are accepted. Leave the field empty to hide the map column.

Map size has five steps: Extra small, Small, Medium, Large or Extra large. Medium grows with the contact details beside it; the others keep a fixed height. On a phone the map sits under the details.

Newsletter signup

With Newsletter signup, you can set the form heading, description, email-field placeholder and button label. Turn on Require privacy-policy consent to require a checkbox linking to your privacy notice before signup is accepted.

Subscriptions go to the same list used by the Newsletter sign-up block. Download that list through a website export.

Legal links and cookie settings are available in every footer. Add your privacy notice and terms under Legal links. They appear in a small row near the copyright text. If your cookie-consent settings use a footer link for changing consent, Cookie settings appears here automatically; you can change its label per language in the cookie settings. Without a footer, Demona shows a floating icon in the corner instead. See Cookie consent for details.

Language switcher

Turn on Show language switcher in footer to add a language selector to the footer. It only appears when the site has published content in more than one language. This becomes especially important if the header is hidden, because the footer may then be the visitor's only way to change language.

Footer colours

By default, the footer uses the selected style's background together with your brand palette. You can set a custom background colour and opacity from 0–100%. Below 100%, the page background shows through. If you leave the text colour empty, Demona selects a readable colour from the brand palette.
