Breadcrumb block

What is the Breadcrumb block for?

Show visitors where they are — and how to move one level back. Breadcrumbs show the path from the homepage to the current content. They are most useful on deeper site structures, category pages and content collections.

Manual path example

In manual mode, you choose the intermediate pages yourself. In this example, the trail runs from the homepage through Features and Website Blocks, then ends on the current page.

Breadcrumbs do not replace the main menu. Breadcrumbs explain hierarchy; the main navigation moves visitors between the important areas of the site.

Use automatic mode as the default

The automatic trail is built from the page's real parent–child hierarchy, not from the main menu. That means renamed pages and multilingual versions continue to use the current destination data.

Choose manual mode only when the breadcrumb should intentionally differ from the stored hierarchy. In that case, you select the intermediate page references yourself, while the block still handles the homepage and current page.

What can you configure in the Breadcrumb block?

For most pages, a few switches are enough. Manual paths are mainly for exceptional structural cases.

Automatic mode

Source: “From the page hierarchy”. Builds the trail from the parent pages of the current content. This is the stable default for most pages.

Manual mode

Source: “Crumbs I pick”. Add intermediate breadcrumbs using page references when the trail should intentionally differ from the hierarchy.

Start with the home page

Turn the homepage item on or off at the beginning of the breadcrumb trail.

End with this page

Show or hide the current page title. When shown, it appears as text rather than a link to itself.

Override the label

For manual crumbs, use a shorter visitor-facing label while keeping the destination as a stable page reference.

Structured data

The public breadcrumb trail also generates BreadcrumbList structured data for search engines.

KNOW WHERE YOU ARE

Good navigation makes the way back as clear as the way forward.

Use breadcrumbs where there is a real hierarchy, and let automatic mode follow the actual site structure.
