News and event categories

What are categories for?

Grouping content by topic makes it easier to navigate. Use categories to organise news and events, for example Company news, Tips and Case studies, or Workshop, Webinar and Conference. The category name can appear on cards, and list blocks can filter by category so a page shows only content from a particular topic.

News and events have separate category lists. Manage them under Settings → Content → News → Categories and Settings → Content → Events → Categories.

Create, rename or remove a category

  • New category: choose New category, enter a name and save it.
  • Rename: use Edit on the category row. The new name appears everywhere the category is used.
  • Delete: choose Delete. News items or events in that category are not deleted; they simply become uncategorised. The confirmation also shows how many items are affected.

The list shows how many news items or events belong to each category.

On a multilingual website, the category name is required in the primary language. If another language is left blank, visitors see the primary-language name there instead. The list indicates which categories are still missing translations.

Assign a category

A news item or event can belong to one category at most. You can set it in two places:

  • In the news or event settings, on the Meta tab while editing the item.
  • In the News or Events list under Settings, using the category dropdown on each row. This is a quick way to categorise several items without opening them one by one.

Where does the category appear?

  • On cards: in News list and Event list cards. You can hide the category in the block settings if you do not want it shown.
  • At the top of an article: the Page header block can display the news or event category.
  • As a filter: in automatic mode, News list and Event list blocks can filter by one or more categories.

You build category pages yourself; they are not created automatically. Categories do not get standalone pages by default. If you want a topic hub, create a page and add a News list filtered to that category. The Help Center uses the same idea: each section combines a heading with a News list filtered to one category.
