Expanding panels block

What is the Expanding panels block for?

Pictures to play with. The block shows three to five picture panels, each with a title, a short description and an optional link. The description only appears when a visitor points at a panel, taps it or clicks it, so the page stays clean while the details are one move away.

It suits services, product lines, locations or references. When visitors need to see and compare the items all at once, a Features block or a Cards block is the better choice.

Three layouts, the same panels

You can switch the layout at any time; the panels keep their content.

Expanding row

The panels stand in one row and the chosen one widens to show its text. On a phone they stack and open the same way.

Flip cards

A click or a tap turns the card over; the back holds the description and the link. The back can be in the accent colour or dark.

Spotlight

A spot of light follows the pointer across the cards. Linked cards open their description on hover; on a phone it is always shown.

Usable by everyone. The panels can be opened and flipped with a keyboard too, and the cards never flip on a mere hover, since phones have no pointer. For visitors whose device asks for less motion, the cards swap instead of turning.

The photo is what matters. Text over a picture always sits on a dark band, so it reads on any photo. The effect still depends on the picture: choose one strong, well-lit photo per panel.

Expanding panels settings: the layout at the top, then the headings and, per panel, the picture, title, description and link.

What can you set on Expanding panels?

You fill in the panels in the sidebar and watch the effect on the canvas.

Panels

A picture, a title, a short description and an optional link per panel. Reorder them with the arrows.

Focal point

Mark the important part of each picture so it stays in view both as a narrow strip and when opened.

Number the panels

On or off. In the Expanding row layout, the numbers tie the narrow strips to the panels they open.

Link label

One label for every panel's link, such as "Details" or "Take a look".

Back of the cards

For flip cards, the back can be in the accent colour or dark.

ALT text

A description per picture and per language for screen readers and search engines.

Less text, more pictures

A good panel needs a good photo.

Choose one strong picture per panel and set its focal point, so the important part shows both as a narrow strip and when opened.
