Brand: colours and fonts

How do you set your website colours and fonts?

Four colours and two fonts are enough to give the whole site a consistent visual system. Set the foundation under Settings → Appearance → Brand: colour palette, typography and, optionally, a site-wide background image or video. Blocks use these defaults automatically, so one change can update the look of the whole site.

Save your changes with Save brand.

Start with a preset palette and font pairing. They are designed so contrast and typography continue to work together as the site grows. Move to custom colours when a preset is already close and you only need to fine-tune a shade or two.

Colour palette

Choose from 23 presets: Modern, Editorial, Bold, Noir, Midnight, Earthy, Pastel, Forest, Ocean, Mono, Terracotta, Olive, Plum, Petrol, Slate, Espresso, Coral, Saffron, Cobalt, Signal, Mint, Blush and Oxblood. Each palette contains four colours:

  • Background: the page background,
  • Text: body copy and headings,
  • Accent: links, buttons and focus states,
  • Muted: fills, borders and softer surfaces.

Under + Advanced colour overrides, you can set all four colours manually. When you do, the site switches to a custom palette. If you later click a preset, Demona asks before replacing those four custom values.

Contrast checking

When you use custom colours, the settings continuously check whether text remains readable. WCAG AA expects at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio for normal text. Demona checks text against the main background and muted surfaces, as well as the accent colour against main, dark and muted surfaces.

If a pairing falls below the threshold, you see a warning with a Fix action. It shifts the colour to the nearest shade that reaches 4.5:1, helping preserve the character of the palette while improving readability for people with low vision.

Typography

Choose from five preset font pairings: Editorial, Classic, Warm, Elegant and Modern. Each combines a heading font with a body font designed to work well together.

Choose Custom to select separate heading and body fonts from 41 type families. Filter by recommended, serif, sans or display, or search by name. If you want one font throughout, choose Same as heading for body copy.

All fonts are served directly by the website rather than loaded from an external font provider. That can reduce third-party requests and keeps visitor data from being sent to a separate font service.

Website background

You can optionally place a background image or background video behind every public page. Only one can be active at a time.

  • Image: fills the viewport and may be cropped on taller screens. Set a focal point to keep the important part visible.
  • Video: use Choose video from library to pick an MP4 or WebM video you uploaded to the media library, or enter a direct .mp4 or .webm URL. It plays muted, automatically and on a loop, and a self-hosted video loops seamlessly. Use motion only when it genuinely adds something, and keep the clip short — ideally under five seconds.
  • Overlay: adds a dark layer over the image or video so text stays readable.

Most websites do not need a background at all; a calm, simple image is usually enough when you do use one.

Images

In the Images section you set the corners (Square, Soft or Round) and the shadow (None or Soft) of photos across the whole website at once. With Block default, every block keeps its own look, and a block can always override it in its own Image frames setting. See Image corners and shadow for details.
