Image corners and shadows

How do you set picture corners and shadow?

One decision for every picture. Picture corners and shadows say a lot about the mood of a website: square pictures feel clean and editorial, rounded ones friendlier and softer. You do not have to set this block by block: choose Corners and Shadow once in the Images section under Settings → Appearance → Brand, and every block with pictures follows it.

The Images section of the Brand settings: choose the corners and shadow for the whole website here.

Picture corners

Three levels of rounding, or every block keeps its own.

Block default

Every block shows the corners it was designed with. Keep this if you do not need one corner style across the whole website.

Square

Sharp corners. A clean, editorial look that suits text-heavy pages and tables.

Soft

A barely noticeable curve. A safe choice if you are not sure which fits.

Round

A clearly visible curve at the corners. A friendly, soft look that works best with the Image pair block and a soft shadow.

Picture shadow

  • None: the picture sits directly on the page background.
  • Soft: a subtle, blurred shadow below the picture, as if it lifted slightly off the background.

Here too you can choose Block default: every block then uses its own built-in shadow.

A soft shadow shows best on a light background. On a dark band it is more restrained, and the corners carry the character instead.

Overriding it on a block

If one block needs something different, for example square pictures in a gallery on an otherwise rounded website, select the block and, under Block settings, set Corners and Shadow in the Image frames section.

  • By default both are set to Site setting: the block follows the Brand setting, and if you change that later, the block changes with it.
  • If you choose a specific value on the block, it keeps that value whatever you set for the whole website later.
A block’s Image frames setting: by default both values follow the site setting.

Some pictures keep their own shape. Shapes such as an arch or a circle, as well as polaroids, avatars and logos, do not follow the corner setting. If you chose Arch, Circle or Blob for a hero picture, the shape decides there.
