Editor overview

How is the editor laid out?

You edit the website in the same place your visitors see it. Demona does not use a separate admin screen for page editing: the editor is the website itself. When you're signed in, open any page and you can edit it straight away — there is no edit mode to switch on. Click a heading and rewrite it, insert a new block or replace an image. What you see is what visitors see.

The editor has two main areas: the page, where the content appears, and the editing panel on the left, where you configure everything else. The panel first opens folded into a narrow strip so the page has room. One click expands it, and the editor remembers how you like it.

The main parts of the editor

Four things worth getting familiar with first.

The page

The website as visitors see it. You edit text directly here: editable content gets a dotted underline when you hover over it. Click a block, a card or a slide and the panel shows its settings straight away.

The editing panel

It has three views: Structure (the page's blocks), Page (page settings) and Block (the selected block's settings). Its header shows the save status and holds Undo and Redo.

The ⋯ menu and the command palette

The ⋯ menu in the panel header creates a new page, news item or event, makes a copy, generates a QR code and leads to site settings. The command palette (Ctrl+K, or ⌘K on a Mac) reaches everything by search.

The “+” button

It appears between blocks. Use it to insert a block from the picker, or ask AI to write the next block for you. The / key does the same.

Preview: see it as a visitor

When you're signed in you are always in the editor, so there are no separate Edit and View modes. To see what visitors see, click Preview at the bottom of the panel: the page opens without any editing controls, at phone size too. You can also open the visitor view directly by adding ?preview=1 to the page address.

Edit text directly on the page

Click a heading or paragraph and start typing. Select a word or sentence to open a compact formatting bar with bold, italics, text size, colour and links. Button labels, card titles and list items can be edited directly in the same way.

The three views of the editing panel

Three tabs at the top of the panel switch between its views:

  • Structure: the page's blocks in order, with small previews. Columns and Tabs blocks expand to show the blocks inside them, and you are told when a block is missing in one of the languages. Click a row to jump to that block; Add block at the bottom adds a new one to the page.
  • Page: the page settings, with short summaries (description, card image, indexing, publication). The AI icon in its header rewrites, translates or shortens the whole page.
  • Block: the selected block's settings. Click a block on the page and the panel switches here on its own.

The groups of the Block view

A block's settings sit in three groups, in the order you usually look for them:

  • Content: what the block says: images, links, list items, layout. Choices such as the layout are shown as pictogram tiles with a short hint.
  • Appearance: Size & spacing (width, the gap below the block, inner space), Colours (background, text and accent, each with Default, Dark, Page, Accent, Muted or Custom colour), image frames on blocks with pictures, and the background image.
  • Advanced: visibility (all devices, mobile only, desktop only, hidden), languages, anchor ID and schedule.

Beside the block's name, the AI icon rewrites, shortens or translates the block, and the ⋯ menu holds duplicate, move, convert to another block and delete. Move the selected block with the arrows.

In list blocks (cards, slides, testimonials, pricing tiers) you edit one item at a time: click an item to step into it, use Previous and Next to move between items, and Back to the list to step out. If you select a block inside a Columns or Tabs block, use the Back link at the top of the panel to return to the containing block.

There is no Save button because the editor saves automatically. Changes are saved about a second after you stop typing. The panel header always shows the current state: Unsaved, Saving… or Saved. To force a save immediately, press Ctrl+S. Undo with Ctrl+Z and redo with Ctrl+Shift+Z (⌘ instead of Ctrl on a Mac), or use the arrows in the panel header.

The ⋯ menu

  • New…: create a new page, news item or event; you pick the type in a dialog.
  • Make a copy…: a copy with all its blocks when you want a similar page as a starting point. The copy dialog lets you choose the type too: a news item can become an event or a page, and the other way round. The title, lead, image and blocks come along; a news copy needs its category picked again and an event copy needs a date.
  • Page settings: manage the page title, URL, parent page, SEO, sharing image and visibility. With the panel expanded, the Page tab is the same thing. See Page settings for details.
  • QR code…: a printable QR code for the page.
  • Replay the tour.
  • Site settings ↗: opens Settings, where you manage the header, footer, brand, SEO and other site-wide options.

Until your site is live, a Go live button also sits at the bottom of the Structure view.

Command palette

Press Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) or the search button in the panel header to open the command palette. Type what you want to do: run an action, jump to a block or add a new one.

Check the page at phone and tablet widths

Click the width shown at the bottom of the panel to choose Full width, 768 px (tablet), 375 px (phone) or a Custom width. The page genuinely reflows at that width, rather than simply being scaled down, so you can see how the layout behaves while you edit. The nearby zoom control only changes how much fits on your monitor; it does not change the page layout.

Editing on a phone

On a phone, a bar along the bottom replaces the panel and switches between the same three views (Structure, Page, Block), in the same order. The selected block's actions appear in a floating bar above it, and its Settings button opens the block's settings. The ⋯ menu sits at the top of the screen.

The editor tour

The first time you sign in, a short four-step tour introduces the editor: typing in place, the panel's views, AI and Preview. Replay it at any time with Replay the tour in the ⋯ menu.
