Add and arrange blocks

How is a page built from blocks?

A page is made of blocks that you arrange like building pieces. Every page is a vertical sequence of blocks: perhaps a hero at the top, then text, a card grid and a form. This guide shows you how to insert a block, move, duplicate and delete it, and organise blocks inside columns or tabs.

For an overview of what each block is for, see the block catalogue with live examples.

Insert a new block

  1. Move the pointer between two blocks or to the bottom of the page. The “+” button appears.
  2. Click it to open the block picker. Blocks are grouped by type, and you can also search by name at the top, for example “gallery” or “form”.
  3. Choose a block. It is inserted with sample content that you can edit straight away.

The new block is always inserted where you clicked the “+” button. You can also open the block picker with Add block at the bottom of the Structure view, or with the / key.

Not sure what should come next? Ask AI. At the top of the block picker, choose Let AI write the next block. Demona reads the page so far and suggests suitable blocks to continue it, already filled with draft copy. Insert suggestions individually or together, or ask for different ideas. See Use AI in the editor for details.

Move, duplicate and delete blocks

Click a block to select it. A narrow column of move buttons appears beside it: Up and Down move the block one position, Move to the top and Move to the bottom send it straight to the start or end of the page.

The other actions sit in the Block view of the editing panel, in the ⋯ menu beside the block's name:

  • Duplicate block: create an exact copy directly below, including its settings.
  • Move to…: choose by name which block it should go before or after, so on a long page you don't have to click Up repeatedly.
  • Convert to another block…: see below.
  • Delete block.

On a phone, Up and Down sit in a bar floating above the selected block, and duplicate and delete are in the menu of the block's settings.

If you delete something by mistake, press Ctrl+Z or use the Undo arrow in the panel header. A short notice with an Undo button also appears after a delete.

Convert a block to another type

Text-based blocks can be converted while keeping their content. For example, a Rich text block can become a Callout box, Quote or Title block, and vice versa. In the Block view, look for Convert to another block… in the ⋯ menu beside the block's name. It is quicker than inserting a new block and copying the text across.

Blocks inside columns and tabs

Two block types can contain other blocks:

  • Columns: two or three columns, each containing any blocks you need — for example text on the left and an image on the right.
  • Tabs: clickable tabs, each with its own group of blocks.

The “+” button and block movement work inside these containers too, and in the Structure view you can expand them to see the blocks inside. If you select an inner block, use Back at the top of the editing panel to return to the containing Columns or Tabs block.

Block settings

When a block is selected, its settings appear in the Block view of the editing panel, in three groups. Under Content you change anything that cannot be edited directly on the page: links, images, list items and block-specific options. Appearance controls the block background, colours, spacing and width, and Advanced controls which devices and languages it appears on and whether it should only be visible during a specific time window. See Style a block: backgrounds, colours and spacing for details.
