File download block

What is the File download block for?

A download is useful when the file format itself adds value. The File download block highlights a document with a clear name, short description and button. Use it for price lists, catalogues, technical sheets, forms or material people may need to save, forward or print.

Do not hide an entire webpage inside a PDF. If people mainly need to browse, search and read the information on mobile, it is usually better to keep it on the page itself.

Visitors should know what they are getting before they click

  • Display name: use a clear, human-readable title.
  • Description: briefly explain what the file contains and who it is useful for.
  • Button: name the file or the action, for example “Download the price list”.
  • Date or version: for frequently changing documents, make it clear whether the file is current.

What can you configure in the File download block?

Alongside the download target, you control how the block names and explains the file.

File

Use a direct file URL or select a file from the media library.

Display name

Show a clear human-readable title instead of a technical filename.

Description

Explain briefly what the document contains and who it is useful for.

Button label

Replace a generic download label with something specific, such as “Download the price list”.

Six colour variants

Choose Accent, Grey, Dark, Blue, Green or Amber for the file icon treatment.

File-type detection

The block chooses a document, archive or generic file icon automatically from the file extension.

When you update the file, think about the old version too

If a document changes regularly, make the version or date easy to understand. When you replace it, check that the download on the page really points to the new file.

DOWNLOADS, WHEN THEY EARN THEIR PLACE

Give the file a clear name, context and action.

Visitors should understand what they are downloading, why it is useful and whether it is current before they click.
